The invention and use of lacquerware is one of the outstaoding contributions of the Chinese people to civilization.As early as in the New Stone Age red aod black lacquerware had already made its appearance,and in the Tang(618-907),Song(960-1279)and Yuan(1279-1368)dyoasties carved lacquerware reacbed its highest artistic peak in history.In the Ming(1368-1644)and Qing(1644-1911)dyoasties,the derelopment of new skills ushered lac-querware into a period of great prosperity.The Ministry of Posts and Telecommuications issued a set of four special stamps on October 20,1993.
