摘要
Three hundred township-level clinics opened in Tibet in the past year. The centres, receiving 5 million yuan (US S 860,000) from the central and regional governments, bring the number of such institutions in the region to 723. All local Tibetans and other ethnic minorities enjoy free medical care. During the 210 years before the liberation of Tibet in 1951, the region’s population grew by just 110,000. In the 40 years following liberation, Tibet’s population has risen from 1 million to 2.2 million.
