THE Beijing Society of Women’s Theory was founded in 1985 during an unusual time in China. Economic reform was happening gradually throughout China. The new economic order broke the one-sided pattern of a planned economy which had existed in the country for many years. The trend of this economic reform affected everybody—especially women—to varying degrees.
