Abstract The paper has summarized the relationship between traditional pollution issues and global environmental problems widely concerned now dsys; and introduce the Earth Regenerating plan (ERP), its objectives and implementing scenario which were turned out by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan. It also presents the development state of environmental technology such as for prevention of global warming, protection of ozone layer, recovery of solid wastes, prevention of acid rain and ocean pollution, and cleaner production in Japan. A new idea on setting up a world wide environmental technology series is also presented.
