Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF)is a peptide hormone originally from cardiac atria. The human ANF gene is located on the distal short arm of chromosome 1, about 2.1 Kbp in length. It is coded prepro-ANF with 151 amino acids, the 28 amino acid residue fragment in C terminal of prepro-ANF is thus called ANF. ANF gene expression is significant in maintenance of humoral homeostasis and regulation of cardiovascular function.
