B. Y. Chen pointed out that a compact submanifold x: M^m→E^n is of finite type if and only if its mean curvature vector h satisfies P(△)h=0, where P is a non-trivial polynomial, and △ the Laplacian on M. It is an interesting question to find out the submanifolds satisfying the above equation. We have
