摘要 US Secretary of State James Baker left Washington for the Middle East on April 16. This is his third trip to the region in six weeks. From April 19, Baker visited Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Syria. On April 20, Baker met in Jerusalem with Palestinian activists. On April 25, Baker turned to the Soviet Union for help to try to boost his lagging Middle East peace mission. On April 28, Israeli Prime Minister Shamir rejected a US proposal for an open-ended regional Middle East peace conference.
