A national programme has begun in Sweden to promote electricity conservation and conversion from electricity to other energy carriers. The utilities have initiated their own projects in this area, and interest is growing among end-users as well. The effective use of energy is needed in order to reduce energy costs and reduce the negative environmental effects of energy processing. The planned decommissioning of two nuclear reactors in 1995 and 1996 will give Sweden another reason to work for a more efficient use of energy. This article includes an example of an energy efficiency analysis carried out in a Swedish process industry plant.
