Concern about environmental quality remains high in virtually all countries. Different polls indicate that both the public and the leadership in different countries are highly concerned about environmental degradation. Both demand stronger action by governments and by international organizations to protect the environment. Furthermo- re, the public and leadership are willing to make material sacrifices to improve the environment. This article intro- duces the present global acid precipitation, ozone layer depletion, impact of increasing concentration of greenhouse gases on the climate and aftermath of soil erosion and excessive cutting of tropical forests. Measures are being taken by all countries and international organizations to stop the further degradation of the environment.
