Chinese Premier Li Peng ended his four-day visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and flew back to Beijing on May 6. On May 6, Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu ended a five-nation tour of Southeast Asia during which he strongly backed the US military presence in the region. Throughout his 10-day trip, which took him to Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand and Singapore, Kaifu vowed his country would never again become a military power.
