翻译适应选择论和译者主体性——以韦利英译《道德经》为例

Approach to translation as adaption/selection and translator’s subjectivity:A case study to Waley’s Version of Tao Te Ching

本文运用翻译适应选择论,以译者对需要的适应/选择为视角,分析韦利英译《道德经》时译者主体性的体现。旨在说明20世纪30年代韦利英译《道德经》是当时西方世界对汉语文学作品的渴求,而韦利在翻译过程中的翻译策略更体现了译者在翻译活动中为实现翻译目的而表现出的主观能动性。

This paper illustrates the manifestation of translator’s subjectivity, using Waley’s version of Tao Te Ching as a case study. It means to show Waley’s selection of Tao Te Ching as a source text in the 1930s is his own adaptation/selection to the western cultural need for Chinese literary works, and Waley’s translation strategy embodies translator’s subjectivity.
