施特劳斯现代性"三次浪潮"的比喻借自柏拉图《理想国》。柏拉图预见了三次浪潮的内容和顺序,他的三种正义观和现代性三次浪潮一一对应,柏拉图揭示了政治事物的本性。施特劳斯通过柏拉图的分析看到政治事物的本性之后,考虑如何改善现实政治共同体。他为此设想了一种亚里士多德式的政治科学,并将其设立为施特劳斯学派的使命。施特劳斯学派的努力取得了丰硕成果,已与当代政治科学的主流汇通合流。亚里士多德式的政治科学有其局限性,需要进行数学化的现代转换。

Leo Strauss's metaphor of 'three waves' in his modernity theory was borrowed from Plato's Republic.Plato had foreseen the contents and sequence of the three waves of modernity,corresponding with his three views of justice.Plato had revealed the nature of political things.After seeing the nature through Plato's analysis,Strauss started to consider how to improve the real political community.Consequently,he wanted to establish a modern Aristotelian political science,which had been set as the mission of the Straussian School.The Straussian School's efforts have achieved fruitful results,and met the contemporary mainstream of political science.However,the Aristotelian political science has its limitations;it has to be transformed into a new modern mathematical version.
