A semiquanitative catheter culture for earlydetection of surgical wound infection was doneby rolling a segment of a plastic intravenouscatheter across a blood agar plate after insertioninto the most inflammed part of the wound onpostoperative day 3. Incisions were monitoreddaily for infection sign until healing of the 55wounds studied, 49 (89.1%) had no growth
