Discussion on the Impact of the Railway Communication on Xuzhou Economy in Modern Times

经济与交通不可分割。徐州曾依靠四通八达的交通成为商贾云集兵家必争的战略要地;也曾由于水路交通优势的丧失而衰落。近代铁路的修建,加强了徐州与国内外市场的联系,推动了工农商业的发展,为徐州重焕青春创造了条件。可惜连年战争,政治腐败,民生凋敝限制了铁路功能的充分发挥,阻碍了经济的健康发展。

The relationship between economy and communication are inseparable. Xuzhou once became the key business and strategic battle area due to its better traffic condition while its declination resulted from its loose of superiority of waterway transportation. With the construction of the railway in the recent years, the relation between Xuzhou and the domestic and international markets have been strengthened, which has promoted the development of the industry, agriculture and business, offering a good opportunity for Xuzhou to be prosperous. The successive wars, political corruptions and the destitution of people's life restricted the function of the railway and hindered the healthy development of Xuzhou's economy.
