This paper aims to investigate the identity of the protagonist of Rudyard Kipling's novel Kim.As an Irish boy growing up in India,he is puzzled by his cultural identity. In the novel,Kipling highlights the conflict between Kim's love and assimilation of Indian culture and his English identity. But Kim's Irishness is intentionally minimized or even obliterated into nothingness. This 'blindness' shows Kipling's conscious efforts in making 'Englishness' a more inclusive and broader identity. The 'de-territorialization' of the English identity is a re-territorialization and continuation and confirmation of itself in a more significant sense. This helps us better understand the novel and the present world.
