Why Citizens Obey:An Interview with Professor Margaret Levi and Professor Peter Gourevitch

玛格丽特·列维(Margaret Levi)教授是比较政治经济学的早期贡献者,她将理性选择理论尤其是理性选择制度主义应用于研究比较政治和统治的问题上。她于1947年出生在美国;1968年,她在布林莫尔学院(Bryn Mawr College)获得学士学位;1974年在哈佛大学获得政治学博士学位,同年加入西雅图华盛顿大学。

This is an interview with Professor Margaret Levi and Professor Peter Gourevitch conducted in September 2013.The two professors say they used economics or economic reasoning in political analysis to make it to be political science in the early,thinking about variables such as the political power that economists never think about,with emphasizing the context and the nuance of a particular place. As the development of economics,they think that there have been a couple of big changes,one of which moves towards institutional economics that contextualizes things.They are doing a wonderful job about how the system works,but not explaining why it's not working.And they don't really ask about the various forms of power,it's the duty of political scientists.And economists remain remarkably closed and are uninterested in what other people do,not to mention the theories are too formal. They also think that the boundaries among social sciences should be broken down.As to China,they say that the most important issue is fairness.They also think that China has changed the world and has already made huge contributions to the researches of social sciences.People feel they are obliged to know something about China,whereas 20years ago they did not.As to the role of the government, they believe there is no such thing that the government does not play an important role in the economy,even in the United States nor the existence of such a thing.As the suggestions for China's future reform,they say that no future development can go on without some actions on accountability or some responsiveness to the larger population.
