Understanding, Conserving, Utilizing: Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development; An Interview with Prof. Gustafsson

随着文化遗产保护事业的发展,文化遗产与可持续发展的关系日渐为全球所关注。瑞典乌普萨拉大学古恪礼教授认为,欧洲关于文化遗产的保护一直并行着两种不同的观点,大约在2000年左右,在可持续发展的理念逐渐成为共识后,文化遗产保护也进入一个新的阶段。文化遗产部门需要理解并准确传播文化遗产的价值,尽可能争取政府、投资商与民众的支持,合理利用好文化遗产,特别是充分利用历史建筑等文化遗产发展文化创意产业,为市场创造就业机会,推动地方经济发展,使文化遗产成为发展的资本而不是成本,成为可持续发展的重要因素,从而更好地保护文化遗产。

With the development,heritage protection theories and practices,the relationship between cultural heritage and sustainable development has increasingly become a global focus.According to Mr.Christer Gustafsson,Professor of Uppsala University of Sweden,there had been two different views regarding cultural heritage protection in Europe,and it was not until the year of 2000 when sustainable development became a common sense that heritage protection started a new phrase.In Prof.Gustafsson’s view,stakehold ers of heritage properties should have a good understanding of the value of heritage and disseminate it cor rectly;they should also try to win support from government,private investors and the public to make proper utilization of heritage properties,for example,to develop creative industries with contribution of these proper ties,thus creating employment and promoting local development.Prof.Gustafsson contends that heritage properties shall not be taken as a cost but a capital and an important element of sustainable development,which in turn ensures better conservation and protection of heritage.
