摘要
The study intends to make a comparison of the use of politeness in Chinese and English culture in order to reveal the close relationship between politeness and culture value.In Chinese culture,self-denigration is the core and rank system is emphasized.So people tend to stress Modesty Maxim and try to maintain the other side’s positive face when they use politeness.However,in English culture,individualism is the core,and their ways of using politeness could reflect they worship individual free and individual power.Furthermore,they pay special attention to equality.
