翻译文化心理学视角下的《红楼梦》回目英译

The Translation of Chapter Titles in Hongloumengfrom the Perspective of Translation Cultural Psychology

本文在翻译文化心理学的视角下对杨宪益夫妇和英国翻译家霍克斯的《红楼梦》全译本回目英译进行比较,阐释分析译者的文化心理差异及其在译文中的体现。分属中西文化背景的译者在翻译过程的磨合与取舍中呈现出了不一样的文化心理特点。杨译注重对原文的忠实,译文具有内向、保守、含蓄、克己等典型的中国文化心理特点;霍译更看重英语读者的心理期待,译文带有明显的外向、开放、自由、多变等西方文化心理特点。

From the perspective of translation cultural psychology,this paper aims at having a comparative study of the translation of the chapter titles of the two complete English versions of Hongloumengrespectively by Mr.and Mrs.Yang Xianyi and David Hawkes.In addition,it has a general analysis of different cultural psychology of the translators and its embodiment in the translation.Translators with different cultural background demonstrate different cultural psychology in the process of translation.Under the Chinese cultural background,Mr.And Mrs.Yang Xianyi pay more attention to the faithfulness to the original text.Their translation has typical psychological features of Chinese culture,such as introversion,conservativeness,implicity,self-control and so on.The English translator David Hawkes attaches more importance to the target language culture and their readers' expectations.His translation is featured with Western cultural traits,like extroversion,openness,freedom,flexibility.
