外销绸专指18—19世纪前后中国输出到世界各地特别是欧洲和美国的、用中国织绣技术生产的、专为外销而设计图案款识的丝绸织绣品。与其他种类的中国丝绸不同,外销绸的收藏与研究大多在国外。中国丝绸博物馆经多年努力,有了一定的藏品积累,种类包括外销绢画、外销织物、手绘外销绸、外销服饰、外销家纺等,其中不乏精品。它们既蕴含着深厚的中华民族传统文化,又散发出浓郁的西洋异国情调,是当时中西海外贸易背景下中西方文化的一次相遇和对话,具有很高的艺术、学术和历史价值。

Chinese export silk refers to the silk products made with Chinese techniques specially designed for and exported to oversea countries. Different from the other categories of Chinese silk, export silk was mainly collected and studied by entities outside of China. After years of efforts, China National Silk Museum has formed a decent collection of export silk products in a variety of forms including paintings, textiles,painted silk fabric, clothes and house goods. These export silk products showcase a harmonious combination of Chinese traditional culture and exotic styles. They represent the encounter and dialogue between Chinese and western cultures under the historical circumstance of China's marine trade with the world, and are of great significance in art, research and history.
