Although at the margin of the text, the cover illustration of western literary theory books is of character, value, importance, which deserves attention. It is complicated, unique, and plays the role of interpretation, aesthetic education and cognition. The uniqueness ensures that it is reasonable to study as a specifi c research object, the complexity ensures the richness of research content, the function and value endow the study of cover illustration with important academic signifi cance. The academia and book binding and designing industry don't attach importance to cover illustration and hence lots of problems remain.
