The character xue( 学) appears 65 times in the Analects of Confucius,and the sections concerning about learning amount to more than one hundred,directly or indirectly. Theories on learning include: 1. make up your mind to learn and focus your mind on dao( 道); 2. the functions of learning; 3. be happy with learning; 4. learn step by step; 5. have an insatiable desire to learn; 6. learn comprehensively; 7. value the methods of learning; 8.learn from extensiveness back to intensiveness; 9. one principle runs through it all; 10. attach importance to the inheritance; 11. keep a rigorous style of learning; 12. value practice,and match your words to your deeds; 13. gain new knowledge by reviewing old; 14. integrate learning and thinking; 15. integrate learning and writing; 16. attend to self- reflection and correcting mistakes; 17. learn but have no need of a constant teacher; 18. learn constantly;19. cherish time to learn,and so on. Its connotation is extremely rich,and it is a valuable spiritual wealth,which still has an important inspiration value for us today to establish a correct view of learning and to construct a learning society.
