Role of Li Hongzhang in the course of China's social modernization

李鸿章是他所处的时代的一个关键性人物。在清王朝末世衰危、内忧外患的情况下,他"师夷长技",以清醒的头脑和勇于探索、实践的精神,求取中国的"富"和"强",他领导和兴办了中国近代史上第一批军事工业、民用企业;创办实力强大的中国近代海军;派遣留学生,培养人才。对中国产生了深远影响,并使落后的中国开始了近代化的历程。

Li Hongzhang is a famous politician of Qing Dynasty.In the later stage of Qing Dynasty,domestic troubles and foreign invasions spurred Li Hongzhang to find the measures to make China rich and to build up strong military power.He is one of advocators of westernization movement,and founded the first military industry and civilian enterprises in China's modern history.To resist aggression,he set up the powerful navy for Qing government.Moreover,he sent a lot of students abroad to learn advanced technology,trained many talented persons for the country.All those positive activities influenced China profoundly,and inspired the backward China to begin its modernization process.
