The shortage of freshwater resources has become one of the bottlenecks ofrestricting sustainable development of the Chinese economy and society. Theuse of seawater resources may provide a way to relax the supply and demandcontradiction of freshwater resources. At present, the technology of seawateruse is becoming more and more mature in our country while the industry hasnot yet formed. On April 26th 2004, the State Development and Reform Commis-sion announced that importance should be attached to developing seawateruse with high technology.
