Translation, a kernel notion, is the foundation and logical starting point of translation studies and the other disciplines concerned. The author of this paper compares and analyses the authoritative definitions of translation home and abroad, and revises them to counter their defects in the hope of consolidating the theoretical foundation of translation studies.
