信息论是对地图学理论发展具有重要意义的现代科学理论。正是地图的通信特征使制图人员对信息论产生了浓厚的兴趣。然而地图信息传输有其特殊性,必须有条件地灵活运用才能收到较好的效果。可以期待广义信息论的建立必将对地图学的发展产生更加深远的影响。

Information theory is one of the contemporary scientific theories that is of great sig nificance in the evolution of cartography, it is the communicative characteristics of maps that inter est the cartographers. However, the cartographic communication has its own peculiarity which requires a flexible use of mathematical information theory so as to obtain the most desirable and effective results. Yet it can be expected that the general information theory will exercise further influence on the development of cartography.
