The three-note set is a basic form of tone combination used usually in the music of modem free atonality as well as the all-order serial of three-note sets. The article classified all 12 of three-note sets according to intervals, structures and styles. The writer pointed out that the number of interval types were depended on the structure symmetry or not, which finally affected the various possibilities of the different sets permutation and combination.
