摘要
从女性主义翻译理论角度,分析中国译论中翻译地位的性别角色身份的双重性:一方面,翻译被贬低为社会性别角色中屈居次要和被轻视地位的妇女形象;另一方面它又被极力褒扬为担当醒时济世的的匹夫形象。前者把翻译视为文学系统中屈居边缘和次要的地位;后者则不仅提升了翻译在文学系统中的地位,而且提升了其在社会系统中的地位。在中国翻译史上,翻译家的男性性别身份被父权社会寄予了很高的社会期望,他们也因此把翻译看成是尽匹夫之责的途径。因此,这决定了中国翻译地位的独特性———男性性别角色。这一身份特征还体现在自古以来对原文的父权权威的极力推崇。
The double-gender paradox constitutes the distinctive description of the role of translation. On one hand, translation is metaphorically associated with misogynist stereotype of a match-maker whose social status is quite inferior and it can therefore be argued that translation stands an inferior position in the literary system;on the other hand, historically, the dominant description of the status of translation is associated with the stereotype of men as the national salvation force in patriarchal society. In China the absolutely vast majority of translators and all translator masters are men and it is a fact that men have been encouraged to contribute themselves to the national civilization and salvation. Therefore the dominant role of translation in gendered terms was masculine in patriarchal society.
