摘要
Lying in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese civilization, Shanxi has routinely received a number of honorable appellations, such as Capital of Paleo-artifacts and Museum of Anciet Chinese Architecture. The cultural heritage of Shanxi is unsurpassed while its ecological sights are equally wondrous. Sitting on the eastern brim of the Loess Plateau, Shanxi enjoys beautiful rivers, majestic mountains and rolling hills. This complicated topography gave birth to a colorful variety of natural wonders: holy mountains, grotesque rocks, mysterious caves, limpid lakes, torrential waterfalls and rare organisms. According to survey, Shanxi’s overall index level in the four categories (mountains, rivers, forests and caves) ranks seven among all the provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China--and first among all the provinces north of the Huai and Yangtze rivers.
