The Esperanto Movement, as a sort of interlingual practice, seems to have been overlooked and forgotten in the history of cultural intercourse between China and foreign countries in the 20th Century. While being a trend of thought and a language movement, it has influenced the modern Chinese thoughts, language and literature by its own way. It suggests the inner conflicts and tensions latent in the formation of modern Chinese culture, and represents the unique historical experience of modernization in a 'late-comer' country. Therefore, it bears a particular significance for modern Chinese culture.
