On the Contemporary Enlightenment That We Get from Deng Xiaoping's Democratic Theory

邓小平的民主理论是在拔乱反正的特殊历史时期形成的 ,有许多观点对现今仍具有启示意义 :社会主义民主本质上体现的是劳动人民当家作主 ,但这并不意味着让没有文化的人掌握权力 ;社会主义民主是要调动全体劳动者的社会参与热情 ,但并不意味着搞“大鸣”、“大放”、“大字报”、“大辩论” ;社会主义民主是要“人民监督政府”、要“多党合作” ,但不能搞西方的“三权分立”、“多党制” ;社会主义民主既不能从真空中构建 ,也不能一蹴而就 ,民主制度的建设有一个漫长而艰巨的过程。

Deng Xiaoping’s democratic theory takes shape at the special historical period when setting wrong things right. There are four viewpoints still greatly enlightening us nowadays: First, the socialistic democracy gives rights to laborers,the master of their own affairs, but it does not mean an illiterate person in power;second, the socialistic democracy must arouse people’s political enthusiasm, but it does not mean Da-ming, Da-fang, Da-zi-bao, Da-bian-lun;third, the socialistic democracy is to let people supervise government, and cooperate among different parties, but it does not mean western political institutions;fourth, the socialistic democracy can’t be set up from nothingness and can’t be carried out in one move. To construct democratic system, we have a long and arduous way to go.
