刘长卿“五言长城”新解

Fresh Interpretation of Liu Changqing's "Wu Yan Chang Cheng"

刘长卿曾自称为"五言长城"。"五言长城"究竟指什么,历来说法不一。一般人认为指五言中的长篇,也有人认为指五言中的短篇,即五言近体。实际上,"五言长城"应该理解为刘长卿对它的偏爱、实际创作数量的众多以及对其五言诗价值和艺术成就的倚重。

Liu changing once called himself 'Wu Yan Chang Cheng', and hence led to various interpretations of this title. The general idea is that it refers to the long pieces of his five-character poems, but some others hold that it refers to the short pieces. In effect, Liu Changqing's 'Wu Yan Chang Cheng' should be considered as his preference and reliance on the artistic value of his numerous five-character poems.
