唐诗英译文中的引述现象分析

A Linguistic Analysis of Reported Speech in Translated Versions of Tang Poems

本文拟从语言学的角度探讨唐诗英译文中的“引述”问题。本文将首先根据翻译这种特定的语言转换形式对“引述”作些简单的理论探讨。本文认为 ,在翻译这种特殊的语言转换活动中 ,不存在“原封不动地引用原话”的原话引述 ,因为翻译是通过把A语码转换成B语码来再现A语码所传递的信息。本文对原语 (唐诗 )的引述情况与目的语 (译文 )的情况作了比较 ,并归纳出几种情况。本文还通过分析一些形式不对等的例子来表明 ,如果译者对原文做太多的解释或把原先简炼含蓄的诗句译得太明了 ,那留给读者的想象空间和再创造的余地就不多或没有了 ,因此也影响到诗的意境的传递。

This paper attempts to study, from a linguistics perspective, reported speech in translated (English) versions of Tang poems. It is argued that there is no 'quote' in translated texts in terms of using the exact words in the reported speech, because the source language and the target language are encoded in two different languages. It is also pointed out that the analysis of reported speech is linked with the criterion of 'formal equivalence'.
