Qi, Scholar Temperaments and Cao pi's Poetries

曹丕诗歌的"文士气"体现在多抒发温柔敦厚之情,好采撷美善细微之物,常熔铸悲凄伤感之句,爱选择音轻调弱之韵,善运用委婉含蓄之法。而形成曹丕诗歌有"文士气"的原因,乃在于他所具有的久经历练、善于权变,文武兼备、以文见长,宽猛相济、恩威并施,尊奉儒学、排斥异端等方面的个性气质,以及他对前代诗歌特别是对李陵诗歌的继承和发展,并受到了建安至黄初这两个时代诗风变迁的影响。

Ancients said that Cao Pi's poetries had scholar temperaments, but they didn't explore much of it. In the author's opinion, the scholar temperaments of Cao Pi's poetries were embodied in five aspects, namely, expressions of tender and honest emotions, being keen on picking beautiful and tinny things, being good at founding sentimental and sorrowful sentences, like choosing light tones and unstressed rhymes and being skilled at using mild and round about tones. The scholar temperaments of Cao Pi's poetries were attributed to his dispositions with experience, flexibility in tactics, talents in both polite letters martial arts, admiration to the Confucians, and excluding heterodoxy. His poetry style was inherited from Li Lin's ( an older generation poet) and made the creations of his own. His poetries were also influenced by the changes in the poetry styles from Jianan to Huangchu periods.
