“形”与“神”辨

On the Paradox between Form and Spirit

长期以来,“形”与“神”的关系一直是备受翻译界关注且争论不休的问题之一。本文结合新旧两个世纪中发生的两场关于“形似”与“神似”关系的辩论,通过对各方观点的梳理与分析,揭示了导致这一矛盾的根本原因,进而结合“形式”、“意义”与“内容”等概念对翻译中的“形”与“神”进行了新的界定,并在此基础上探讨了解决这一矛盾的途径与方法。

For a long time past, the relation between form and spirit has been at once a most concerned and contentious topic amongst translation circles. In the past two centuries, there once arose two debates on the relation between formal resemblance and spiritual resemblance, bearing which in mind, this article hereupon brings perspectives from many a facet into order and analysis for the sake of the discovery of the crux of the conflict. Henceforth, by means of such concepts as form, meaning and content, a boundary between form and spirit is newly set, whereupon new approaches have been touched upon to provide a solution to this conflict.
