The picture now in Brain Museum has long been attributed to Gu Kaizhi (A. D. 344 to 406) and does rank top in the history of Chinese painting. However, what we see is a copy rather than the original work.Basing himself on a careful analysis of its calligraphic style, use of line and representation of human figures, along with a comparison with many related works of art unearthed, and a consultation to literature.the author comes to the conclusion that the author of the copy is a court artist of Southern Dynasties of the 6th century. The work owes its sense of three dimensions to the influence of a 5th-century artist Zhang Sengyao's "concavo-concave" painting while maintains Gu Kaizhi's brushstroke.
