Re reading The Conditions of the Working Classes in England we have recognized that Friedrich Engels had revealed fully in this work the main environmental problems in the cities and towns of Great Britain during the period of the Industrial Revolution, namely the terrible living and working conditions of the workers, air pollution and water pollution. These problems emerged in the process of the industrialization and urbanization. According to Engels the workers' misfortunes correlated with capitalist behaviors, and the traditional Irish lifestyle as well. This work provided us precious historical materials and enlightening views on British environmental problems so that it was a classic literature in British environmental history.
