Weimo yanjiao tu is a sketch for a figure painting by a student of the Songdynasty master Li Gonglin. Using comparative analysis, the author concludes that this isnot the work known only by the title Hua Weimo bu’er tu (An illustra of Vimalakirti’sNon-duality Principle) by the Jin dynasty painter Ma Yunqing. Yet there are many doubtssurrounding the Yuan dynasty work, Wang Zhenpeng’s Jin Ma Yunqing Hua Weimo bu’er tu (Acopy of Ma Yunqing’s painting An illustration of Vimalakirti’s Non-duality Principle),which may have been originally housed in the collection of the Neifu (Royal HouseholdOffice) in the Yuan dynasty, and have been included subsequently in the Qing dynastycatalogue Midian Zhulin chubian and listed as a copy from the original (linmoben) of LiGonglin’s scroll painting Hua Weimo bu’er tu.
