Survey and reflections on the current situation of English teaching and learning in middle schools in Western Anhui

皖西地区中学英语教师总体素质偏低,好差教师分布不均匀;许多教师的教育观念落后、科研意识淡泊、教法陈旧,学法指导未引起应有的重视,学生英语学习环境偏差。为此,须从教师的职前培养、职后培训及学校教学设施建设等方面寻求改进。

The survey of English teaching and learning in middle schools in Western Anhui through questionnaires shows the problems such as teachers' low professional qualities, uneven distribution of qualified teachers, backward educational ideas, weak awareness of scientific research, out - dated teaching methods and less deserved instruction given to learning strategies, etc. The problems surely lead to the unfavorable circumstances of students' English learning. Based on the survey, new approaches are put forward in order to improve learning circumstances and the quality of English teaching and learning in the undeveloped areas in terms of pre - service, in - service and post - service training of teachers and teaching equipments in middle schools.
