The Positive Expression of Chinese Characters as Visual Code in Language

本文从结构主义符号学的角度论述汉字对语言意义的积极表达作用。认为汉字的简化和繁化只是表象的形式,其深层次的原因在于反映文字的书写符号和视觉符号的性质,简化是为了书写的简便快捷,繁化则是为了积极地表现词义。文章通过大量的字例证明在古文字时期和隶书、楷书以及到现代的简化字中,都存在大量的记号,认为记号是和字的意义与读音没有直接关联的构字部件,但可以间接表现字的意义,本文把这种记号分为别形记号和指示记号,并认为汉字有效反映了文字作为视觉符号的性质。

This essay mainly deals with the positive expression of Chinese characters in language meaning from the perspective of semiotics of structuralism. It holds that simplified Chinese characters and original complex from of the simplified Chinese characters are just external forms used to reflect the characteristics of writing codes and visual codes. To simplify them is to write quickly and conveniently , to complicate them is to express the meaning actively.The author proves by so many sample characters that there are a lot of codes in acient characters, Li shu,Kai shu and modern simplified characters, and the codes are the components of characters which have no direct connection with the meaning and pronunciation of characters, but they can express the meanings of characters indrectly. This essay classifies the codes into the signs to distinguish the forms and siginfying signs, and insists that Chinese character reflects the characteristics of language as visual codes.
