The Distinction Between Words and Meaning' had a great influence on Six Dynasty's literary theory,which had caused literary theorists to pay attention to 'words' and 'meaning' and to study the relation between 'words' and 'meaning'. Liu Xie ingeniously combined 'words being not able to convey meaning absolutely' with 'words being able to convey meaning absolutely', which affirmed the artistic possibility of 'implication' conveyed with 'words', and he took the idea that'a good text lies in what is left unsaid' as the supreme artistic realm.The breakthrough on the relation of 'words' and 'meaning' brought about far reaching influence on our country's literary creation and the development of the literary theory.
