AIM:To study the relationship of motor nerve conduction velocity(MNCV) and sensory nerve conduction velocity(SNCV) with C peptide in type 2 diabetics,so as to provide theoretical evidence for the prevention and treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN). METHODS:A retrospective study was conducted in 73 patients with type 2 diabetes to analyze the correlation of MNCV and SNCV with C peptide values before and at 120 minutes of glucose load in the C peptide release experiment. RESULTS:The reduction of normal and abnormal MNCV and SNCV was correlated with the reduction of C peptide at 120 minutes of glucose load(t=23.15-35.46,P< 0.01),but was not correlated with the reduction of C peptide before glucose load(t=0.47-1.63,P >0.05). CONCLUSION:The reduction of C peptide may accelerate the descent of NCV,which suggests that keeping serum C peptide levels may retard the progress of peripheral neuropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes.
