Landscape sketching is an important sector in the creation of mountains - and - waters painting. As time varies, the expressing characteristics of landscape sketching differ. Focusing on a careful dissection of modern landscape sketching expressing characteristics, the following paper analyses the differences and similarities between modern and traditional landscape sketching in respects of aesthetic orientation, methods of observation and language of expression, and presents us a clearer understanding of modern landscape sketching, thus benefits the creation of mountains - and - waters painting in the new period.
