开拓应用型本科教育是我国实现第一次现代化与第二次现代化计划的有力举措,是社会与经济发展的需要,因而具有重要现实意义。发展应用型本科教育是可行的,培养应用型本科人才的办学途径主要有:新办应用型本科院校;现有的学科型、工程型大学兼办;一些高职高专升格为应用型本科院校。

Production-oriented undergraduate education is an effective strategy for China's realization of the first and the second modernizations, and an important and feasible response to the needs from economic and social development. The main approaches to production-oriented undergraduate education include establishment of new institutions under this category, expansion of existing academic and/or engineering institutions of higher learning and upgrading of technical and vocational institutions into this field.
