The Theatre of the Absurd, which came into being in the fifties of the last century, totally subverts the ideas of traditional drama. This paper attempts to analyze some striking features of Absurdist drama in terms of plot, dramatic dialogue and characterization. Some comparisons have been made about marked differences between Absurdist theatre and traditional drama. Some of social factors that contribute to the rise of this drama are analyzed, and its aesthetic function is discussed in terms of indirect representation of social realities of the Western world after the Second World War.
