On Marong's Speaking Evil of Ligu

本文通过对东汉中后期著名经学大师马融为外戚大将军梁冀草拟奏章诬陷著名政治家李固这一政治事件的分析,揭示马融和李固对立的原因主要是两人不同的学术背景、政治态度和个人追求导致的,展示东汉外戚、宦官干政对士人产生的深刻影响。

In late Eastern Han Dynasty, Marong, a famous Jingxue master, wrote a letter to the emperor maligning Ligu, a then well-known statesman. Based on the analysis of this incident, my article comes to a conclusion that the main reasons for the contradiction between Marong and Ligu lie in their different academic backgrounds, political attitudes as well as personal pursuits. From this paper we can have a vivid picture of how deep is the influence imposed on official candidates by eunuchs and the relatives of the emperor through marriage.
