Cultural signification of orientation in the order of seats

东、西、南、北、左、右六个方位词具有不同的文化含义。中国古代文化中普遍存在着东尊西卑、南贵北贱、有时“尚右”、有时“尚左”等文化现象 。

The words of orientation have different cultural signification.In ancient Chinese culture,it is generally considered the east as superior and the west as inferior.The north implicates with eminent and the south also implicates with humble.In a certain period, the right has respective cultural meaning,and in other historical period,it is the left with respective meaning.Although the cultural signification of these terms appear differently,it has the close link with ideas of Yin and Yang philosophy.
