On Translation Criteria from a Cultural Perspective

翻译与文化有着密不可分的关系,翻译既是语言的翻译,更是文化的翻译。随着跨文化交际的不断发展和逐渐深入,文化因素在翻译中的作用越来越受到重视,其研究重点就在于对文化差异性的理解与分析。经验证明,文化差异的客观存在并不影响文化翻译的"可译性"。跨文化交际中,译者具有相对的自由,可以根据客观标准和主观意愿选择"归化"、"异化"的翻译策略。

Language and culture are closely related in the sense that translation can be more appropriately perceived at the level of culture than that of language. In transcultural communication, the translator or interpreter enjoys relative freedom to make choices between the strategy of domesticating translation and foreignizing translation on the basis of both objective standard and subjective intention.
