'Xing' in The Book of Songs does not correspond with the lines which are set off by it; What sets off 'Xing' is not a single object, but some scene composed of some images while the object worshipped by ancient religion is a single animal or plant. The 'objects' setting off 'Xing' are related to collecting, fishing and hunting life. Therefore, 'Xing' originates from ancient life of ancestors, and has nothing to do with ancient religion.
