There is a cause and effect relationship between the wide spread of temples of witchcraft and the popularity of witchcraft. In addition, many local folk gods are scattering about due to the blooming commercial activities in the Song Dynasty. Finally, people expect a lot from the gods because the Song government is so weak in foreign affairs. The Song government has been attacking temples of witchcraft in order to maintain social stability, yet it can never cut off with temples of witchcraft for various pressures and needs.
